India’s youngest Everester Kaamya Karthikeyan felicitated by Tata Steel Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, May 30: Tata Steel today felicitated Kaamya Karthikeyan celebrating her Mt Everest triumph on May 20.

Kaamya Karthikeyan’s record-breaking ascent of Mount Everest from the Nepal side has been supported by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) which takes immense pride in the rare feat achieved by her at just 16 years of age marking name in history as the youngest Indian to achieve this extraordinary feat.

In an event to mark the celebration of extraordinary success, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services Tata Steel applauded the rare achievement of the young mountaineering sensation.

Alongside Kaamya’s triumph, the event also saw presence of her mentor and proud father, Commander S Karthikeyan (Indian Navy), who also scaled the world’s highest peak just hours after her.

Kaamya’s meticulous preparation, including all acclimatisation rotations to higher camps and Mt. Lobuche, has been instrumental in her success and serves as a shining example for aspiring mountaineers.

TSAF’s steadfast support, both financially and through comprehensive training, has been a testament to recognition of Kaamya’s boundless potential and steadfast determination.

Kaamya’s now aims to complete “Grand Slam Explorer” challenge (a mission to climb the highest peak in all seven continents and ski to the North and South poles, aptly named mission SAHAS), combined with her impressive mountaineering achievements and self-belief, has been truly inspiring. Her young age and gender make her an exceptional role model for the youth, the future leaders of our nation.

Her diverse talents, ranging from music and dance to skiing and mountaineering, exemplify the wealth of potential within our youth and the power of TSAF’s philosophy to empower and support exceptional individuals.

  • This is her first attempt to climb Mt. Everest.
  • She aims to achieve ‘The Explorers Grand Slam’ by 2025, becoming the youngest person in the world to do so at just 17 years old. The current record is held by Japan’s Marin Minamiya, who achieved this at 20 years old. Only 70 mountaineers, including 14 women, have completed the Explorers Grand Slam to date.
  • She has already reached the highest peaks in five out of the seven continents: South America, Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America.
  • She was the recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar in 2021.
