Jamshedpur: A potential mishap was narrowly averted on Sunday afternoon when an IndiaOne Air flight arriving from Kolkata developed a minor technical issue while landing at Sonari Airport. The aircraft, operating as flight IOA 206, landed safely at 4:09 PM but came to a halt near the southern edge of the paved turnpad adjacent to Runway 26, triggering concerns over a possible runway excursion.
Initial eyewitness reports suggested that the aircraft had veered off the runway, possibly due to a wet and slippery surface following ongoing monsoon rains. However, IndiaOne Air strongly refuted such claims, calling them “misleading and factually incorrect.”
In an official statement, a spokesperson for IndiaOne Air clarified: “We would like to clarify that on 20 July 2025, IndiaOne Air flight IOA 206 operated by aircraft VT-HJS (Cessna 208B), flying from Kolkata (VECC) to Jamshedpur (VEJS), landed safely on Runway 08 at Sonari Airport at 1609 IST. Following landing, the Captain observed a minor technical issue and, as a precautionary measure, shut down the aircraft at the southern edge of the paved turnpad, following all standard safety procedures.”
The airline further confirmed that all seven passengers on board were safely deplaned without any injury or distress. After inspection, the aircraft was found to be fully serviceable and has since resumed normal operations.
IndiaOne Air also appealed to media outlets to verify facts before publishing reports. “We urge all media houses to verify facts with relevant authorities before publication to avoid unnecessary panic or misinformation. IndiaOne Air remains committed to the highest standards of safety and transparency,” the statement added.
Despite the airline’s clarification, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) were promptly deployed to assess the situation and carry out a formal investigation. According to sources, the wet condition of the runway is being examined as a possible contributing factor in the incident.
Sunday’s incident has once again turned the spotlight on the runway conditions at Sonari Airport, where fliers have previously raised concerns during monsoon operations. Although no damage or injury was reported in this case, aviation authorities are expected to take a closer look at weather readiness and surface safety at the airport.
As the probe continues, the aviation community awaits a detailed report from the investigation teams to determine the exact sequence of events and whether any additional safeguards are needed.
