94,000 Tonnes of Cargo En Route to India
New Delhi (IANS): Two Indian LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, have successfully transited the Gulf region and are now steaming toward Indian shores. Together, the vessels carry approximately 94,000 metric tonnes of LPG, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced Sunday.
Arrival Timelines
BW TYR is heading for Mumbai with an expected arrival on March 31, while BW ELM is sailing toward New Mangalore for a scheduled arrival on April 1.
The Ministry has instituted all necessary measures to protect Indian vessels and seafarers in the Gulf. Officials confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the region remain safe, and no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have occurred in the past 24 hours.
Monitoring and Repatriation
Currently, 18 Indian-flagged vessels carrying 485 seafarers remain in the western Persian Gulf. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with ship owners and Indian Missions.
The DG Shipping Control Room continues to operate 24×7. Since its activation, the team has handled 4,523 calls and 8,985 emails, including 92 calls and 120 emails in the last day alone. To date, DG Shipping has facilitated the safe repatriation of 942 Indian seafarers, with four returning home in the last 24 hours.
Port Operations and Diplomatic Support
Port operations across India, including those managed by the State Maritime Boards of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, report smooth functioning without congestion.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia. Indian Missions and Posts throughout the region operate 24×7 helplines and maintain constant contact with local authorities and community associations. These missions continue to provide visa, consular, and logistical support to seafarers, students, and stranded Indian nationals.
