Jamshedpur, May 3: Deputy inspector general of police (Kolhan) Rajiv Ranjan Singh today held a meeting with superintendents of police of the twin districts of Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan at Chaibasa on Sunday. During the meeting, Singh who joined as DIG, Kolhan on Friday, took stock of the geographical status of these three districts. He also briefed the superintendents of police about how to maintain lockdown strictly without putting the people in trouble. He also briefed the police officers about remaining vigilant against the naxal activity beside investigating into the pending cases of crimes.
Addressing the meeting said: I have come up with some important suggestions and asked them to improve on crime after all we are here to serve the society and it cannot be possible without improving on our part and winning their confidence.
The senior police official said that focus would be given in strengthening infrastructure and related logistics for checking cyber crime. About increasing incidents of organised crime including cyber crime, Singh said criminals were now using the internet and mobile phones to commit crime. Keeping these factors in mind, he said the department has taken steps to modernise the police force.
The DIG said that the East Singhbhum district has already a team of skilled police officers to detect crimes in which internet or cell-phone is largely used. “As per our study the team that has expertise to handle cyber crime must be more efficient and result-oriented. I will soon reorganise the cell that is looking after the cyber crime,” said Singh.
Singh also expressed concern over the rising illegal mining and trading of iron ore in Kolhan. He said that steps would be taken to curb the menace.
Questioned over the rising Maoists activities, the DIG said that effective anti insurgency operation is being carried out to flush out
the ultras.
Vigilance against naxalites is being carried out effectively and in bordering areas particularly with Bengal and we need to be more vigilant on our side, said Singh. Maoists activities are quite under control at Saranda and Porahat area of West Singhbhum, the district which was affected the most from
this menace.
Singh informed that the police have already set up six CRPF camps at Saranda and another six camps are in the process of being installed. We are confident that once the CRPF camps are set up at Saranda and the development process that has been initiated by the Centre, the
naxal problem in Saranda will be over, he further noted.
Talking about the nature of crime taking place at the steel city and rest of the Kolhan, the senior police officer said that as Jamshedpur
is a cosmopolitan city, and people from every corner of the country and even outside are settled here, the nature of crime also varies. He said that he was visiting each district to ensure that the police had a people-friendly image, professionalism and probity.
