IMD sounds heat wave alert in 9 Jharkhand districts, rain expected in Jamshedpur

Ranchi, June 2: The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning for nine districts in Jharkhand, subsequent to rain and lightning observed across 18 districts. The warning, denoted by a yellow alert, has been issued by the Ranchi-based weather center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the department’s four-day forecast, one day is expected to bring rain and lightning with strong winds, followed by three days under a heat wave alert.

On June 3, north eastern, central, and southern Jharkhand including Jamshedpur may experience thunderstorms and lightning with wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Heat wave conditions are forecasted for some places in Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra districts on June 4. Subsequently, a yellow alert has been issued for heat wave conditions in nine districts for June 5 and 6. These districts include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, and Koderma.

Ranchi’s weather is expected to feature partial cloudiness on June 3, with a chance of thunderstorm clouds. Clear skies are forecasted from June 4 onwards, accompanied by rising temperatures. Heat wave conditions are anticipated in Ranchi from June 4 to June 6, with maximum temperatures ranging between 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.

Recent weather activity in the past 24 hours included light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, in many parts of Jharkhand. Heat wave conditions were observed in several places in Garhwa and Palamu districts. Daltonganj in Palamu recorded the highest temperature at 45.4 degrees Celsius, while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bokaro.

Strong winds were reported in various districts, including Simdega, Bokaro, SaraikelaKharsawan, Giridih, Jamtara, Hazaribagh, Baharagora, Barhi, Dhanbad, Chatra, Palamu, and Jagannathpur. Additionally, a cyclone area has formed in eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, while relief rain is expected in southern regions due to the southern monsoon.
