Jamshedpur: The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi Meteorological Centre has forecasted light to moderate rainfall in most places across Jharkhand today, as the monsoon remains active over the state.
Weathermen explained that the monsoon trough at mean sea level is currently passing through Phalodi, the center of a depression over northeast Rajasthan and its neighborhood, Churk, Purulia, Digha, and extending southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal. Additionally, an east-west trough is running from the depression over northeast Rajasthan and its neighborhood to north Odisha, ranging between 0.9 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height.
“The monsoon trough and the associated depression are contributing to the active monsoon conditions in Jharkhand,” said an IMD official. “We are expecting the day’s temperature in most parts of the state to witness a two-degree fall in the next 48 hours.”
Jharkhand has been experiencing a rain deficit, which currently stands at 19%. Against a normal of 559 mm, the state has so far received 445 mm of rain. This prediction of continued rainfall is seen as a positive development in mitigating the deficit.
Local residents and farmers are hopeful that the forecasted rains will help alleviate the dry conditions. “We have been waiting for consistent rainfall to support our crops,” said Ramesh Kumar, a farmer from Ranchi. “The prediction of more rain is a relief for us.”
With the monsoon’s active phase expected to bring more showers, Jharkhand looks forward to closing the rain deficit gap and ensuring better agricultural outcomes for the season.
