Jamshedpur, Dec 21: Jamshedpur excise unit on Monday unearthed an illegal liquor factory being operated in a house at Green Park area under Kadma thana in Jamshedpur.

Acting on a tip-off, Jamshedpur excise unit raided a single storied house in the residential area of Green Park in Jamshedpur at around 8 am and recovered 40 litre of spirits used in manufacturing of liquor, more than 2000 fake stickers of prominent brand of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and over 1500 bottle corks from the room and other raw materials used for making liquor. However, the team could not find any bottles or packed bottles from the room.

“We arrived at the spot and started searching the small room at the backside of the house. However, the owner of the unit, Rakesh Kumar managed to escape by jumping from the window of the house. We have detained the woman who owns the house, Urmila Devi for interrogation. We have got information that the illegal unit was operating since the last three months,” said Sandeep Nag, sub-inspector at the Jamshedpur excise unit who was part of the raiding team.

Sources  in the Jamshedpur excise unit revealed that the IMFL liquors manufactured without following standard procedures and proportions are harmful to health.

“Such liquors are harmful to health as they do not adhere to the standard proportion and procedures. We have information that these liquors were supplied to roadside dhabas and also at few hotels and restaurants in the city outskirts. The liquors were also being sent to other parts of Jharkhand and even Bihar. The market value of the liquor produced from the spirit is over Rs 4 lakh,” said a senior excise unit official in Jamshedpur.

Raids are being conducted to nab the main operator of the unit, Rakesh Kumar while the lady house owner is being interrogated for her involvement in giving the room on rent to a person involved in a suspicious operation.

Incidentally, over a decade back over a dozen persons died after consuming spurious liquor at Oraon Basti under Sitaramdera thana area in the heart of the city. Recently, during a raid in Beldih Basti under Bistupur thana area a liquor manufacturing unit was unearthed but nobody could be arrested.
