Jamshedpur, Oct 14: A class 9 girl student of Shardamani Girls High School, Sakchi, attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on herself on Friday.

Sources said the girl was allegedly caught cheating during her science exam earlier today. The invigilating teacher reportedly made her take off her clothes which was protested by the minor. But the teacher reportedly did not listen. Later, on reaching home at 5 pm, the girl poured kerosene on herself and set herself afire. She sustained 50 per cent burns and was admitted to MGM Hospital where her condition is reportedly serious.

Irked over the incident, the minor girl’s family members and local residents reached the government hospital and expressed anger over the teacher’s alleged act. They said they would go to the school on Saturday and stage demonstration to seek action against the accused teacher.

The student’s friends reached her house in the evening and informed her family about the entire incident at school. They alleged that the invigilator had acted too sternly against their friend.
