Jamshedpur: Callousness of certain officials and staff of all grades and categories have always been in the limelight in both forms of the media. Maladministration is another sore in the wound. Cases of humanitarian causes are not new to patients and their attendants. One such conscience stirring case again surfaced at the MGM Hospital on March 14.
Sankosai resident Shanti Sundi suddenly fell ill and was admitted to MGM Hospital. She was put in the ICU where, in the course of treatment she died. The bereaved family members comprising her husband, children and brother-in-law requested for an ambulance to take the body home. All those employees who were approached turned a deaf ear to their fervent pleas. Even a stretcher was not provided.
The family members carried the body from the ward to the Emergency Department requesting and pleading for an ambulance but no one cared. And thus this pathetic and inhuman show continued. The husband wept bitterly while people watched. Ultimately, an autorickshaw was hired late night to take the body to their home at Sankosai.
Evidently, some doctors too must have been around to witness the incident. They too did not care. Why are doctors administered Hippocratess Oath on passing out and entering a new horizon of service to mankind, at all hours? Have they forgotten the Oath? Has it too been stacked along with the long discarded parables?
