Human Trafficking Racket Busted in Jharkhand: 36 Labourers and Six Minors Rescued

Chaibasa (IANS): Chakradharpur police of West Singhbhum district busted a human trafficking racket and rescued 36 labourers and six minor children.

A joint team from the local police and the Labour Department raided a hotel where operators were allegedly preparing to transport the victims to Gujarat.

Swift Action Disrupts Inter-State Trafficking

The rescue operation began after police received a tip-off that traffickers were holding a large group of men, women, and children at a Chakradharpur hotel ahead of an out-of-state transit.

Acting swiftly on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, authorities formed a special task force. The team integrated officials from:

  • The Police Department
  • The Labour Department
  • The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA)
  • Childline

During the raid, officers caught the traffickers with the victims and seized a travel company bus slated to transport the labourers to Gujarat.

Two Arrested as Investigations Expand

The rescued minors include five boys and one girl. Following directives from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), officials handed the children over to Childline Chaibasa, while investigators continue to question the remaining adult labourers.

Police arrested two suspects from Morbi, Gujarat, identified as Nikunj Govind Borsania and Kadivar Nilesh. Authorities accuse both men of luring the labourers and children with false promises to traffic them across state lines.

Police have registered a case against the accused under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and child labour laws, and have sent both men to jail. The Police and Labour Department are now investigating local links and forward networks to completely dismantle this organized human trafficking chain operating out of Jharkhand.
