Hudhud uproots trees, poles and transformers in Chaibasa

Chaibasa: Tropical cyclone Hudhud threw normal life out of gear in West Singhbhum, especially in Chaibasa on Sunday as it went on rampage uprooting many electric poles, transformers, trees and roofs of houses in just a short time.

Few persons were feared injured in the aftermath of the cyclone, though no definite assessment of the incident could be made immediately by the administration.

Sources said a rainstorm was witnessed between 9.30 pm and 10 pm near Roro river in Chaibasa. Several dozen trees were uprooted and a 11000 volt overhead cable was also damaged.

Trees and electric poles fell on houses. However, no loss of life was reported as electricity supply was turned off much ahead of the rainstorm which was predicted by the Met department.

West Singhbhum district administration carried out repair and relief work today. Fast breeze and rains however spread panic among the residents.

Public and private property was destroyed at various places. Electricity supply and telecommunication services were affected by the cyclone’s effect.
