Jamshedpur, August 1: Following the Howrah-Mumbai Mail train accident near Potobeda village in the Chakradharpur Railway Division, rail operations are set to resume as the damaged tracks have been repaired. The third line, along with the up and down tracks, have been restored and are undergoing tests.
Train operations on the third line resumed Wednesday night, and both the up and down tracks are now being tested. Initially, trains will pass through this route at reduced speeds to ensure safety. After each train passes, the tracks will be inspected again. If deemed safe, trains will eventually return to speeds of 120 km/h.
Deputy Commissioner of Saraikela-Kharsawan, Ravi Shankar Shukla, has been monitoring the progress of the track repairs closely. Kharsawan BDO and CO also reviewed the work on-site.
Post-accident, the three tracks were severely displaced. The damaged coach was removed using cranes and lifting machines. The repair process began with the third line, followed by laying ballast on the tracks with machinery. Over 200 railway employees and workers have been working tirelessly for two days to restore the tracks.
A new rail line was installed, and by Thursday evening, all three lines had been repaired. The overhead electric (OHE) connection was also restored to ensure smooth train operations. During the testing phase, railway workers remain on both sides of the tracks to monitor for any instability and make necessary adjustments
