Homoeopathic students end agitation on DCs assurance

Jamshedpur: The agitation of Singhbhum Homoeopathic Medical College students demanding resumption of classes stalled due to strike of teachers came to an end on Saturday following the assurance of district administration officials for taking steps to fulfill their demands.

Prior to getting assurance, the students continued their dharna before the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) at Sakchi in the morning. They demanded intervention of the DC Dr Amitabh Kaushal to stop the strike of the college teachers to pave way for regular classes. They said their studies were adversely affected due to the stalling of classes following the strike of the teaching staff of the college.

In view of the ongoing agitation, the MP of Jamshedpur Vidyut Varan Mahato met the students and assured to take up the issue with the DC. He later talked to the DC and demanded fulfillment of the demands raised by the students.
The SDO of Dhalbhum Prem Ranjan, local police officials and local politicians met the students and assured to help them tide over the situation. The SDO said the DC had assured to do something to start the classes of the college regularly.

A faction of the students led by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members had earlier burnt the effigy of the DC before the DC office to demand his intervention to break the imbroglio over the pending classes in the homoeopathic college. They had also criticized the principal of the college Dr Kulwant Singh for not taking any action in favour of the students.
