Jamshedpur: Homeless minor girls of steel city will no longer have to go to other districts of Jharkhand for rehabilitation. Now they may feel at home in Sahyog Village at Sonari where they can get a safe shelter.
According to Julie Raut, coordinator of Child Line, So far minor girls of East Singhbhum used to feel wary of going to other districts for rehabilitation. Last year, 36 homeless girls were sent to Khunti, West Singhbhum and other districts of Jharkhand. Due to the absence of a safe shelter in East Singhbhum, five minor girls had to be sent to other districts on an average.
Julie went on to add further that special care of the girls is taken at Sahyog Village. Proper education of the girls is ensured here. A safe shelter for homeless children can be ensured by dialling the number 1098. Every month, over 50 calls are received for help. In more than half of the cases, children complain of exploitation by calling the number 1098, she said.
Bal Sangathan has been set up in 23 slums of the city in order to collect information regarding exploitation of children.
