100 stalls are on display at Gopal Maidan carrying handmade products of tribal culture, art
Jamshedpur: The 11th edition of Samvaad was inaugurated at Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur, as tribal leaders, changemakers along with senior leadership of Tata Steel Limited paid their homage to Dharti Aaba Birsa Munda.

The celebration began with the unveiling of java by senior member of tribal community and Tata Steel, followed by reverberating sounds of 401 nagadas, representing 22 tribes across Jharkhand and Odisha.

The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of senior, esteemed tribal leaders and changemakers like Baiju Murmu and Dashmath Hansda from Santhal tribe, Ganesh Pat Pingua from Ho tribe, Uttam Singh Sardar from Bhumij tribe, Kanu Ram Mardi from Mahali tribe, Laxmi Narayan Bhagat from Oraon tribe, and Somra Khariya from Khariya tribe.

The inauguration also saw the presence of senior dignitaries from Tata Steel Limited like, T V Narendran, Managing Director Tata Steel Limited and Chairman, Tata Steel Foundation, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel Limited and Director, Tata Steel Foundation, along with Deepak Kapoor, Independent Director, Tata Steel Limited and Dr Shekhar Mande, Independent Director, Tata Steel Limited.

This one-of-a-kind tribal conclave has been bringing together the diverse tribes of India with the footprints of nearly 253 out of 704 scheduled tribes.

Akhra, a concept originating in the village-level meetings, has emerged to become the core element of Samvaad, creating a permanent, safe spaces for adivasis to engage in conversations that adds layers of perspectives to our understanding of critical, pertinent societal challenges.

This year, Samvaad will witness the convergence of more than 200 new participants, who are joining the platform after being inspired by the journey of those who have been integral parts of Samvaad since inception, along the decadal journey.

The first evening of Samvaad was also marked by the scintillating performance by Garima Ekka, the lead vocalist of a Nagpuri band, after the captivating show by the Colours of Jharkhand cohort, comprising 401 nagadas.

Sessions for Samvaad Fellowship and workshops with tribal home cooks were underway at Tribal Cultural Centre, Sonari and Johar Haat, near Prakriti Vihar, Kadma.

100 stalls have been put up for tribal artisans, healers, artists, and home chefs who have brought with them carefully selected artefacts of their origins, bringing to light stories from yesteryears and sharing their age-old wisdom.
