Jamshedpur: Rubina Singh, a Class XII student of Hill Top School, has bagged the All India Inter School Creative Writing Competition 2014 in the Senior Category.
She received the award at a prestigious ceremony conducted at St. Gregorious High School, Mumbai, where the Deputy Secretary of CISCE, Lancelot J Fuller handed her the award that comprises a silver plaque, a certificate, a gold medal and a cheque.
The school authorities said Rubina had done her alma mater proud. The Albert Barrow Memorial All India Inter School Creative Writing Competition 2014 is an event conducted at National Level for students of ICSE and ISC by the Council for the Indian School Certification Examination each year and the best essays (Nationwide) at both levels feature in a special publication by the Council.
The theme of the essay given to the students at the on- the- spot writing venue was “Save our environment for a better tomorrow”. Rubina’s piece, titled Earth Raiders, narrates a yarn of a bunch of aliens in the year 2075 AD, who land on Planet Earth which, they had been told, was “God’s most mesmerising creation”, only to be horrified by the sight that awaited them.
Rubina Singh, besides writing, is a notable singer and an ardent debater, having bagged several prizes at Regional and State levels for her endeavours. Her script (inspired by the Shakespearean tragedy Romeo & Juliet) was previously selected for performance at a National level drama competition organized by the British Council at Kolkata.
