Hill Top School organises workshop on Computational Astrophysics

Jamshedpur : An exciting and innovative workshop was organised at Hill Top School in liaison with three USA agencies on on Computational Astrophysics.

A total of 40 students of Classes 9 to 11 and 6 teachers participated in it. Niharika Sravan, PhD candidate in Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA conducted the workshop.

The workshop covered topics like, Introduction to Stellar Astrophysics with special emphasis on the Sun, its composition, characteristics, Space, Black Holes, White Dwarfs, Supernovae, etc. Interface of all participants with Supercomputer at Northwestern University, USA Computing with Quest & Python.

Skype session and direct interface with University scientist: Dr Pascal Paschos, Senior High Performance Computing Specialist, Northwestern University.

After the workshop Niharika Sravan said: �We live in a world that is increasingly being defined by data. The ability to exploit data will enable the students to successfully solve many of the defining problems of our time.�

Principal Puneeta B Chouhan said �A brilliant exposure for the students, so far unexposed to Stellar Astrophysics. A rare & superlative opportunity for students to work on a remote supercomputer and Skype with senior scientists in the US�
