Seraikela: A helmet checking drive was launched in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Sunday. Around 100 motorcyclists were held by traffic police in different police stations area.
The campaign started off in the morning with teams of traffic and transport department officials conducting surprise checking at various places. Motorists not wearing helmets were caught and fined on the spot. Those carrying helmets but not wearing them habitually were also caught by the cops.
Traffic department authorities said the drive was started as a part of the statewide campaign launched with the view to prevent road accidents and bring down fatalities.
They said the campaign would continue without fail since the purpose is to instill the habit of wearing helmet among motorists. A special watch is being kept on young motorists, especially school students who are often caught driving motorcycles with gear, sources said.
