Heightened security measures for Diwali celebrations in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In preparation for Diwali festivities, the district police in Jamshedpur have bolstered security measures, implementing special arrangements at key marketplaces in the steel city.
As a distinctive initiative, Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been deployed at Sakchi, Golmuri, Bistupur, and Mango markets since Sunday. Equipped with wireless sets, batons, and pistols, these teams, inclusive of women personnel, will remain stationed until Tuesday, aligning with the directive from the senior superintendent of police.
Each market will have 30 police personnel divided into static and mobile sections, focusing on sensitive areas prone to increased footfall. The QRT forces, specially trained for emergencies in crowded public spaces, will combat issues like pickpocketing, purse and chain snatching, and other fraudulent activities during the bustling pre-Diwali shopping period.
The teams will also address traffic concerns and ensure smooth passage for shoppers. Vigilance extends to pedestrians, with random searches and frisking implemented to enhance overall safety.
Authorities encourage residents to share information about potential anti-social activities, promising swift action and possible rewards for informants. Cooperation during vehicle checks in the early hours or late at night is also sought.
While applauding the increased security presence, residents express hope for traffic management solutions during the festive season. In response, traffic police have intensified towing improperly parked vehicles, especially on busy roads and in markets.
