Heavy rain, thunderstorms wreak havoc in Jamshedpur, city records 29 mm rain

Jamshedpur, May 22: On Wednesday evening, a bout of heavy thunderstorms and rain, accompanied by lightning, swept through Jharkhand, bringing relief from the scorching sun and humid conditions. Dr. Abhishek Anand from the Meteorological Department’s Ranchi Center forecasts that the rainfall pattern will persist, with chances of thunderstorms across the state. Many districts are expected to experience rainfall on Thursday.

In Jamshedpur, the maximum temperature reached 38.2 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius. The city received 29 mm of rainfall. Palamu district recorded the highest temperature, with Seraikela at 40.9 degrees Celsius and West Singhbhum at 38.1 degrees Celsius. However, rural areas of Jamshedpur faced power disruptions, while waterlogging inconvenienced pedestrians at various locations.

The severe storm also caused damage to property, with the roofs of numerous houses blown away. In Amchudiya village of Barakhurshi Panchayat, families including those of Santosh Mahato, Savita Mahato, and Jagdish Mahato suffered significant losses as the roofs of their homes were ripped off. Ration and other essentials stored in the houses were damaged, adding to the villagers’ woes on Wednesday.
