Heavy rain, thunderstorm brings relief from heat in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The Steel City experienced a much-needed respite from the scorching heat as heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, lashed the region on Thursday evening. The downpour, which broke the dry spell, persisted throughout the day and covered a large part of the district.

Preceded by gusty winds, the heavy shower resulted in uprooted trees across the city, disrupting normal life. The straight mile road connecting Sakchi to Kadma bore the brunt of the storm, with several uprooted trees obstructing traffic movement.

The inclement weather conditions were attributed to a low-pressure trough and depression in the northern Bay of Bengal, leading to rainfall across various parts of the state. According to an official of the Patna Meteorological Office, the intensity of rain is expected to increase in the next 24 hours. Moderate to rather heavy rainfall is forecasted for several parts of the state due to the impending impact of the depression, which is set to hit Bangladesh.

Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas received the highest rainfall, with the local weather office recording 25.2 mm of rain. The city’s maximum temperature today stood at 40 degrees Celsius, a significant drop of eleven notches below the average normal.

For the residents of the Industrial town, the sudden downpour brought much-needed relief from the relentless heatwave that has gripped the Kolhan division for the past two weeks. Today’s shower provided a welcome reprieve, offering respite from the oppressive heat and rejuvenating the spirits of the local populace.
