Jamshedpur: The sit-in programme of district Congress committee in protest of deaths of 164 infants at MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMCH) in the last three months continued here at Sakchi roundabout on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest of today�s agitation programme and former minister KN Tripathy alleged that the state government had failed to prevent deaths of infants in MGMCH owing to the failure of its health machinery.
He said the fate of patients in the state-run hospitals was at stake due to the inefficacies of the entire health system.
Citing the example of a minor girl giving birth on road recently, the minister said now it was high time the health department woke up from its slumber and changed the situation in the betterment of the people.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of Congress workers took out a procession from Sakchi roundabout to MGMCH in protest of the infants� deaths. The protestors demanded stringent measures against the guilty hospital and health department authorities and compensation to the aggrieved families.
Among those present during today�s sit-in included Vijay Khan, Dulal Bhuiyan, Anand Bihari Dubey, Ramashraya Prasad, SRA Rizvi Chhabban, Debu Chatterjee, Ajay Singh, Sanjay Singh Azad, Rakesh Sahu, gayatri Das, Usha Singh and Usha Yadav.
