Hazaribagh Court sentences hemp smugglers to 14 years imprisonment

Hazaribagh: The Hazaribagh Court has handed down a significant verdict, sentencing two ganja smugglers to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of one and a half lakh rupees. The verdict was delivered by the court of Additional District Judge Seven BK Pandey. The convicted individuals, Mohammad Raja Alam and Satish Kumar, both residents of Bakhtiyarpur Madhopur Naya Tola in Patna, were part of a group of four accused in the case.
The incident dates back to November 2, 2021, when the then police station in-charge of Barhi police station, Neeraj Kumar Singh, and CO Arvind Devashish Toppo apprehended two individuals with 150 kg of hemp concealed in a car during routine checks. However, two other suspects, Rahul Tiwari and Dharam Singh, residents of Ambedkar Nagar Sahlpur in UP, managed to escape.
The court’s decision, based on seven witnesses, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, and the seized items in NDPS No. 3/23, resulted in the 14-year imprisonment and fine for the convicted individuals. It’s worth noting that Rahul Tiwari and Dharam Singh remain at large. The defense was represented by Advocate Enumel Minj, while the prosecution was handled by advocate Shashikant Ojha.
