Jamshedpur, July 21: A hardcore CPI-Maoist rebel Mangal Tuddu who was wanted in connection with more than half-a-dozen Naxal-related cases, surrendered before the police at Golmuri police line in the city on Thursday along with his lady love, who was also a rebel.
Tuddu (22), who was a member of the Kanhu Munda squad of the rebel outfit in Ghatshila sub-division’s Ghurabandha area, surrendered after sharing crucial information to the police about the outfit’s hideouts, leading the police to recover huge quantity of explosives and rebel literatures on Wednesday evening.
Tuddu and his 17-year-old fiancée surrendered in presence of the DIG ( Kolhan), Sambhu Thakur at a function in Golmuri police line. A large number of police officials, including senior SP, Anoop T Mathew and SP (City) Prashant Anand attendedg the function. School students, including the girl students from the rebel-infested Ghurabandha block also attended the function which was organized by the East Singhbhum district police.
“The surrender only goes to show that there is better way but to lead a peaceful life. Youths must join mainstream and contribute to the social development. We hope more rebels would return to the mainstream,” said Thakur, while addressing at the function.
The DIG said as Tuddu and his companion have already surrendered before the police, it is the responsibility of the police to ensure their proper rehabilitation as per the state government’s surrender policy.
“We are here to welcome the youths who shun violence. As per government’s surrender policy, we will provide the two rebels plots of land for building house and also Rs 2 lakh so that they may build a career of their own,” said Thakur.
