Haldipokhar Market remains closed against lynching

Potka: Haldipokhar market remained closed the second consecutive day on Saturday in protest of the brutal killing of three local youths by an irate mob in Rajnagar under suspicion of their being child lifters on 18th May last.

All shops and establishments including petrol pumps and buses remained closed throughout the day as the local traders kept their businesses closed.

In view of the sensitivity of the situation, senior police authorities took charge of security in the area. DSP Ajit Vimal, Inspector Ramjeet Mahato and officers in-charge of Potka and Kowali PS, Arvind Yadav and KN Jha respectively, led Jharkhand Armed Police and district police personnel to ensure peace in the area.

As a result of the bandh observed voluntarily by local traders, many traders who had come to Halidpokhar had to go back.

Usually, every Saturday witnesses a huge crowd of traders in Halidpokhar. Sources said that business worth Rs 40 lakh was affected due to the bandh.
