Jamshedpur: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather alert for various parts of Jharkhand, warning of hailstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected throughout the state. The weather disturbance, accompanied by lightning, poses potential risks, and residents are advised to take precautions.
According to the latest bulletin from IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre, isolated places in the southern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand are likely to experience hail accompanied by thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds with a maximum speed of 50-60 kmph today.
Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are expected to occur in isolated locations across northern parts of the state today.
IMD has urged people to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning storms to avoid potential hazards. Strong winds could cause damage to structures, trees, and power lines, making it crucial for residents to take safety precautions.
The IMD forecast indicates that tomorrow, March 22, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected at isolated places across southern, central, and north-eastern parts of the state.
Meanwhile, north-western parts of the state could experience thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph.
Weather experts attribute the current weather pattern to a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh to north Odisha across Chhattisgarh at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level. Additionally, a trough/wind discontinuity from Marathwada to south Tamil Nadu now extends from the cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its surrounding regions to north Interior Karnataka across Maharashtra at the same altitude.
Several parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Daltonganj, witnessed thunderstorms and lightning last evening. The rainfall activity led to a significant drop in maximum temperatures, providing temporary relief from the rising summer heat.
