Jamshedpur: In a display of unwavering devotion, thousands of members from the Sikh community commemorated the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, their first guru. The Central Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee, Jamshedpur, orchestrated a vibrant “nagar kirtan,” where devotees fervently recited Japji Sahib, the shabad “Sat Guru Nanak pargatya,” and “Ooncha dar babe Nanak da.”

As part of the celebrations, Gurudwaras adorned the town, hosting special Ardas prayers and organizing langars to mark this significant occasion. The grand procession, commencing from Bistupur Gurudwara, traversed various parts of the town, concluding at Sakchi Gurudwara in the evening.

A procession of vehicles and trailers, accompanied by Panj Piaras, gatka performers, and school bands, traversed the town. The focal point of the procession was the beautifully decorated ‘Palki Sahib,’ carrying Guru Granth Sahib, drawing the reverence of thousands who sought blessings by bowing in its presence.
Social and religious organizations played their part, offering fruits and serving “langar” of milk, tea, and snacks to the devotees. Notably, all 36 Gurudwaras in the district participated in the festivities, organizing religious functions and hosting langars.
President of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Inderjeet Singh, emphasized the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, promoting brotherhood, amity, and collective efforts against ignorance and poverty. He expressed gratitude for the cooperation received from the police and civil administration in ensuring the event’s success.
Reflecting on Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday, Sardar Shailendra Singh, a senior leader, conveyed greetings to the nation. He highlighted Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s timeless message of peace, harmony, and righteousness, emphasizing its potential to transform society. Guru Nanak Dev, born in 1469 near Lahore, Pakistan, continues to be revered, and Sikhs celebrate Gurpurabs with unwavering devotion.
In closing, the celebration stood as a testament to the enduring legacy of Guru Nanak Dev, fostering unity, compassion, and the pursuit of a virtuous life.
