Greater awareness of Factories Act needed among MSMEs: Tata Steel Safety Chief

CII Jharkhand organises workshop on safety and sustainability

Jamshedpur, April 25: “Safety is no longer just about compliance—it is a core business imperative,” said Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Safety Panel and Chief – Safety at Tata Steel Ltd., during a workshop on Safety and Sustainability organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jharkhand at the Centre for Excellence on Friday.

Addressing industry representatives, Sinha emphasized that robust safety practices are essential for companies aiming to expand globally, as international clients and stakeholders now prioritize safety as a key business requirement. He called for greater awareness of the Factories Act, especially among MSMEs, and outlined five major safety risks that persist across industries, noting the sector-specific nature of risk profiles.

The workshop aimed to enhance industrial practices by addressing critical safety concerns and showcasing the practical implementation of Sustainability 4.0 across various sectors. With participation from safety professionals, business leaders, and experts, the event offered actionable strategies to improve workplace safety, boost sustainable growth, and align operations with global benchmarks.

Tapas Sahu, Past Chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and Managing Director of Highco Engineers Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the workshop. He stressed the growing importance of safety in today’s industrial ecosystem and highlighted CII’s ongoing initiatives to build safety awareness among MSMEs. He noted that building a strong safety culture begins with small yet consistent steps across businesses of all sizes.

Abhijit A Nanoti, Chairman of the CII Jamshedpur Zonal Council and Managing Director of JCAPCPL, underlined the importance of integrating safety and sustainability into core business operations. He said that a safe workplace reduces disruptions, while sustainable practices minimize long-term risks—together creating agile and future-ready industries.

The workshop concluded with a call for collaborative, forward-looking strategies to drive operational excellence through safety and sustainability.
