Grassroots push for school hockey in Jamshedpur

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Feb 3: Strengthening its focus on grassroots sports development, the Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA), Jamshedpur, under the aegis of Hockey Jharkhand, organised an “Introduction to Hockey” session for Physical Education teachers from government schools across East Singhbhum district.

As an initial step towards expanding hockey at the school level, a basic training programme was conducted for nearly 20 P.E. teachers.
The session covered fundamental skills, basic techniques and the rules of the game, enabling teachers to acquire the confidence and practical understanding needed to introduce hockey in their respective schools.

The initiative is aimed at empowering Physical Education teachers to launch structured hockey programmes, form school teams and systematically prepare students for participation in forthcoming SGFI and CBSE school-level tournaments.

Held over two days on February 1 and 2, the programme concluded successfully and marked the beginning of a focused effort to widen hockey’s footprint through the school education system. The Naval Tata Hockey Academy is also planning to organise school-level and grassroots tournaments to provide young players with competitive exposure and avenues for growth.

Through such initiatives, NTHA continues to play a vital role in nurturing hockey at the foundational level, in alignment with Hockey Jharkhand’s vision of building a strong hockey culture across the state.
