Jamshedpur: The two day archery competition organized by Baba Tilka Majhi Memorial Society at Narwa Pahad in Jadugoda concluded today with Potka Block�s Jharia resident Hopna Tudu bagging the first prize with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh. The 2nd prize went to Sonaram Mardi of Gopi Ballabhpur in West Bengal with a cash tag of Rs 50 thousand while Durga Besra of West Singhbhum came in third and was presented Rs 21 thousand for his skill.
Other contestants among the five thousand participants from three districts and West Bengal who also got cash awards included Sivlal Soren (Pahadpur), Ganesh Murmu (Dampada), Madan Hansda (Goudgram), Jakia Sardar (Chakulia) and Palu Ram Soren.
During the concluding ceremony, JMM district president Ramdas Soren said, �The Jharkhand Government should institute an Archery Academy to protect and preserve this sport. The persons for this discipline of sport should be selected at Panchayat level so that more people can partake in archery and propagate this event.�
JMM leader Sanjiv Sardar stated that archery was an integral part of Jharkhand�s tradition and culture. �It is essential to spread the outreach of the art of archery so that it becomes a popular sport,� he said.
The closing ceremony was anchored by Mukhiya Bhagirath Hansda. Among those present at the event were Somay Kisku, Sunil Mahto, Chadrawati Mahto, Ganesh Sardar, Sogen Purty and the members of the Society.
