Govindpur residents stage dharna on pollution and road issues

Agitators meet DC, threaten massive stir from April 6

Jamshedpur: Hundreds of residents of Govindpur staged a demonstration before the Jamshedpur Collectorate here on Monday mainly to demand repair of roads and to protest pollution caused by dust. They were united under the banner of the city-based social organization Awesome India. A memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Raghubar Das was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar.

Leading the agitation, the national president of Awesome India, Roshan Jha, and state Youth Congress secretary Rakesh Sahu said the agitators will be compelled to launch a massive protest across the city in case the district administration fails to take action on the points raised in the memorandum before 6th April this year. They said the administration should take prompt action to reduce the high levels of pollution caused in Govindpur by the flying dust.

Due to the presence of major companies in and around Govindpur and passage of heavy vehicles, the air pollution has gone up in the area. The quality of air is not suitable for humans. More than three lakh people are facing this problem, said Sahu.

The protesting leaders said the condition of roads in Govindpur was deplorable due to their daily use by heavy vehicles. Accidents keep happening on the roads due to their poor condition, they said.

Among those present during the agitation included Neeraj Dubey, Shambhu Dubey, Ajay Sharma, Bheem Kumar, Raju Gope, Mrityunjay Mahato and Bapi Mandal.
