Jamshedpur, Dec.1: In order to spread brotherhood and unity and to promote healthy competition and sportsmanship amongst the students of the city schools, Govind Vidyalaya Tamulia has organized the 3rd B.M. Modak Inter School Basketball Tournament from 1 to 3 December at the school premises.
Managing Director of the school Dr. B.D. Sharma, in the presence of Guest of Honour Jasbir Singh, treasurer, Jharkhand Police and Ex Basketball player Upendra Mishra graced the occasion by lighting the lamp and inaugurating the tournament.
He motivated the students for their involvement in games and sports as it helps in grooming the personality of the students. Sharma welcomed the guests on behalf of Govind Vidyalaya.
He also said that it was a privilege for the School to host such a mega sporting event in the loving memory of a great Samaritan B. M. Modak.
Principal Dr. Sunita Sinha, Administrator Krishna Modak, Vice Principal Molly Majumdar and Sr. Wing co-ordinator Mitali Das, Jr. Wing Co-ordinator Swapna Shome, P.R.O. Rajesh Sharma, Teachers, Staff members and students were also present during the ceremony.
The matches were played under the supervision of Referees Vijay Kumar, Sajjad Khan, Md. Wasim, Md. Nizam Ali and Shabanul Haque.
A cultural programme too was presented by the students of Govind Vidyalaya. The programme was anchored by Debjani Banerjee and Naushad Razia and a student from Std XII Mehnaz. The inaugural match was played between Govind Vidyalaya Vs. DPS (Boys Team) where the hosts won the first match.
In the second match St. Marty’s Hindi School defeated K.P.S Burmamines. St. Mary’s English beat K.S.M.S English, Govind Vidyalaya overcame Mount Litera, D.A.V Bistupur beat D.M.P.S Chandil, St. Mary’s English defeated Vikash Vidyalaya, St. Mary’s Hindi beat R.K.M.E.S, Chinmaya beat D.M.P.S Chandil.
In the girls category D.A.V Bistupur beat Chinmaya while Govind Vidyalaya defeated R.K.M.E.S. The 3 day tournament will be played under the able guidance and leadership of the sports instructors of the School Jamshed, Debabrata Routh and Gokulanand Mishra.
