Government stern, para teachers on backfoot, many join duty

Ranchi: Repeated warnings from the state government eventually put the agitating para teachers of the state on the backfoot as many of them joined duty on Monday.

State Secretary for the Education and Literacy Department Aradhana Patnaik directed the officials concerned of all the districts across the state to give honorarium with a 10 per cent hike to the para teachers who are either not on agitation or who have returned to work from agitation. She said the disbursement of hiked honorarium should be made in this week itself.

Patnaik issued the directive during a meeting convened jointly with the director of the state education project to review the ongoing agitation of para teachers. The district education officers, district superintendents of education and all block education expansion officers of all districts of Jharkhand were also present at the meeting through video-conferencing.

During the review, it was found that in many districts para teachers were not on agitation and all 203 Kasturba Gandhi Girls School had reopened after puja. Wardens of these residential schools have also returned and the schools are being run as most of the students have also come back.

Many part-time and deputed teachers are rendering their services in these schools. Those who have not joined duty have been asked to join by tomorrow noon. On failing to do so, the teachers will be removed from service, Patnaik said.
