Jamshedpur: A group of anti-social elements entered the house of a local Congress activist and attacked the party office at Post-Office Road locality under Mango early on Sunday morning. The reason behind such attack is yet to be known.
The Congress activist Onkar Nath Singh has protested the attack and has given the police 24 hours ultimatum for detection and arresting of the culprits. They have announced to stage a gherao of the Mango police station.
The incident took place on the Post-Office Road and has spread strong resentment among a section of local residents.
They attacked with stones the Congress activist’s house and threw banner depicting state health minister and Congress Jamshedpur West legislator Banna Gupta.
Soon after the attack on Singh’s house and the adjoining party office, a police team led by Mango police station OC, Vinay Kumar visited the spot. While detecting the case, the police also scanned the CCTV camera footage in which one of the culprits later identified as Satyaban Gaur was seen throwing stones at the Congress activist’s house.
“It is too early to comment and we have identified one of the culprits who was identified as Satyaban Gaur, a resident of the same locality. From the CCTV footage it appeared that Gaur who is about 28 years of age was drunk. We have registered a case against him,” said Kumar.
The Mango OC said the attackers, including Satyaban ran away, but the police were continuing raids at the houses of the accused and expressed confidence that all the accused will be nabbed soon.
Onkar Nath Singh is president of Mango Vikash Samity, associated with the Congress party. He is a member of the Peace Committee of Mango.
Singh pointed out that this was not the first time that Satyaban had attacked his house.
” We are going to increase vigil. We have to remain vigilant against all anti-social activities in the area. Satyaban remains indulged in anti-social activities. Otherwise there seems no other reason behind the accused to launch such an attack on me,” noted Singh.
