Golpahari to Jugsalai Petrol Pump to be converted into a four-lane road

Jamshedpur: The redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station is set to bring a major infrastructure boost to the city, with the road from Golpahari to Sankata Singh Petrol Pump in Jugsalai slated to be widened into a four-lane thoroughfare. Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers and expanding to a width of 30–40 meters, the upgraded road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the region.

The Indian Railways has drawn up an extensive redevelopment plan worth around ₹1,000 crore, and the process to initiate work has been accelerated. In the first phase, a new station building will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹283 crore. Additionally, a modern coaching depot for Vande Bharat trains will be developed with an investment of about ₹400 crore.

As part of the expansion, five new platforms will be added to the existing five at the station, increasing the total number of platforms to 10. To enhance passenger convenience, 16 elevators and 14 escalators will be installed, offering improved accessibility for elderly passengers and persons with disabilities.

The project also includes the construction of multi-storey station buildings on both sides. A G+3 structure will come up on the northern side, while a G+6 building will be developed on the southern side. These two structures will be connected through an elevated air concourse, enabling seamless movement of passengers across platforms.

The existing station entry point will be redeveloped as the South Station Building, equipped with modern amenities such as food kiosks, taxi counters, help desks, and spacious waiting areas. Meanwhile, the Burmamines-side entrance will be transformed into the North Station Building.

“ The entire redevelopment project is targeted for completion within 36 months. Once completed, the station is expected to emerge as a modern transport hub offering world-class facilities to passengers while enhancing the overall urban landscape of Jamshedpur,” said an official of Tatanagar Railway Station.
