Jamshedpur: Picture this: teeing off under the stars at the scenic Beldih Golf Course. Drawing inspiration from night golf facilities in global hotspots like Dubai, Jamshedpur has taken a bold step forward with the inauguration of Night Golf at Beldih Golf Course, marking a new chapter for the city’s golfing community.

The launch event was graced by prominent dignitaries including DB Sundara Ramam, Jamshedpur Golf Captain and Vice President of Raw Materials at Tata Steel, Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL, Neeraj Sinha, Chief of Safety at Tata Steel, and Arunava Das, Head of Water Management at Tata Steel.

According to Digvijay Singh, CEO of Jamshedpur Golf, the Night Golf concept is the brainchild of Ritu Raj Sinha, who is also the Secretary of Jamshedpur Golf. Singh highlighted that many golfers, juggling professional commitments, find it challenging to play during the day. The introduction of floodlights on three holes is just the beginning, with plans to extend this facility to the entire course soon.

“This development ensures golfers can continue playing even after sunset, especially during shorter winter days,” Singh noted. “Even in summer, the extended playing hours will attract more enthusiasts.”

The newly developed Par 3 course allows players to enjoy the game until 9 PM, making Beldih Golf Course the first in eastern India to offer a floodlit facility. This innovation is set to redefine the golfing experience in the region, encouraging both seasoned players and newcomers to embrace the sport.

While golf has traditionally been viewed as an elite activity, initiatives like Night Golf are helping to make the sport more accessible to the growing middle class. The illuminated course is expected to draw not only regular golfers but also curious beginners eager to try the game in a unique setting.

Jamshedpur boasts two world-class golf courses—Beldih and Golmuri—maintained by Jamshedpur Golf, the apex body for promoting the sport in the city. The committee has been instrumental in nurturing local talent and elevating golf’s profile in the region.

An official from the Jamshedpur Golf emphasized the role of corporate giants like Tata Steel in fostering sports. “Tata Steel has consistently invested in sports infrastructure, reinforcing Jamshedpur’s reputation as a hub for athletic excellence. The launch of Night Golf is a testament to their enduring commitment to building a vibrant sporting culture.”

With the launch of Night Golf, Jamshedpur has set a new benchmark in the region. The facility is expected to attract players and visitors alike, further strengthening the city’s reputation as a golfing destination.

As the Par 3 course lit up for the first time, it symbolized a bright future for golf in eastern India, uniting tradition with innovation under the glow of the night sky.
