Goa students visit CSIR-NML Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Dec 6: School and Engineering College students from Goa visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur on Tuesday.

As part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat student exchange program, students from Goa are on a visit to Jamshedpur Women’s University.

Fifty students and four teachers from Goa (Madhuraj Kiran Naik, Shivani Gadkari, Vallabh Barve, Archana S. Hudekar) and four teachers (Dr Sweta Prasad, Dr Keya Banerjee, Dr Sarita Kumari, Prabhat Kumar Mahato) from Jamshedpur Women’s University visited CSIR-NML.

The objective of the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” programme is to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between people of different states/UTs.

The nodal officer of the Jharkhand State has selected the CSIR-NML for visit and accordingly arrangement was made for the students and faculties to get R&D exposure at the World Premier National Laboratory.

The students visited different departments of CSIR-NML.

During the visit the deputed scientist of CSIR-NML informed about the Electron Microscopic technique (Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)), X-Ray Diffraction Machine, Creep and other mechanical testing equipment, Rolling and Forging techniques.

The students got very interested to know about the micro level features of the alloy in SEM Images. The scientist explained to the students how the microstructure effects the mechanical properties of the alloys.

The student also visited Urban ore recycling centre of Metal Extraction & Recycling division of the CSIR-NML. The deputed staff demonstrated the recycling of e-Waste. The students were very excited to know about the extraction of precious metals like gold, silver, cobalt, palladium, platinum, nickel and copper from the e-Waste (PCB motherboard, lithium ion battery, mobiles and other electronic wastes).

In addition, the students visited many other equipment’s and facilities of CSIR NML e.g. Worksop, Library and Museum etc.
