Jamshedpur, Sept 9: In a major road mishap a 5-year-old girl child was killed by a speeding car while she was trying to cross the Marine Drive Road in Shivnagar, Kadma Ghora Chowk on Wednesday morning at around 9.30 am.
The deceased identified as Varsha Kumari was hit by Maruti Wagon R car of J.P Mishra and was seriously injured. Soon the locals rushed her to TMH but she succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
In protest against the mishap a section of local residents blocked the Marine Drive. The car driver was caught by the locals. �The residents lost cool on hearing the news of death of the girl and turned violent,� said a police sub inspector who was on the spot.
Over 100 bustee dwellers, including women squatted on the road. The protestors were demanded sufficient compensation to the bereaved family and also assurance from the administration for restricting the speed-limit of the vehicle on the road, which is getting increasingly accident prone.
Soon after hearing the news, MLA Saryu Rai sent his representatives Chitranjan Verma, District General Secretary Mukul Mishra, Neeraj Singh, Manish Pandey, Arvind Mahato and Tarak Mukherjee to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Rai was soon informed about the demise of the girl and he talked with the car owner and driver and demanded sufficient compensation.
Consequently, Car owner gave Rs 1 lakh cash and Rs 75 lakh cheque to the bereaved family of the deceased.
