Ghatshila, June 1: Former Minister of undivided Bihar, Yadunath Baskey passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Swarnrekha Nursing Home in Ghatshila. He was 95 years old. A few days earlier, Jharkhand Chief Minister had visited Yadunath Baskey at the Nursing Home and enquired about his health.
According to information, the body of Yadunath Baskey has been kept in the morgue at HCL/ICC Maubhandar Hospital and his final rites will be performed on Thursday in his Rangamatia village under Mosabani block.
Yadunath Baskey played a vital role in the fight for a separate Jharkhand state. He was very active in the political field. In 1969 he was elected as an MLA from the Ghatshila constituency on a Jharkhand Party ticket and in 1971 he was made Tribal Welfare Minister in the Karpoori Thakur Government of Bihar.
Ghatshila MLA Ramdas Soren said today that Jharkhand Chief Minister and the party’s (JMM) senior members had been informed of Yadunath Baskey’s demise. “The Chief Minister and other senior party leaders are expected to arrive in Ghatshila tomorrow to attend the funeral of Yadunath Baskey,” Ramdas Soren said.
