Ghatshila, July 25: Dr. R.K. Choudhary, Principal of Ghatshila College, met Jharkhand Higher Education Minister Champai Soren at Ranchi on Thursday and urged that due expanding course offerings, development of the college’s infrastructure was necessitated for which additional land was required.
Ghatshila College Principal Dr RK Choudhary presented a shawl and bouquet to Champai Soren upon meeting the minister at his Ranchi residence. During the meeting, Dr. Choudhary explained that Ghatshila College, a significant institution under Kolhan University, has a growing number of students and expanding course offerings, necessitating further development of infrastructure. Currently, the college operated on five acres of land, but an additional five acres were required for expansion. A proposal for this additional land was submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education in January through Kolhan University. Dr. Choudhary requested that a letter be sent to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum to facilitate the acquisition of this land at the government level.
Dr. Choudhary informed Minister Soren that Ghatshila College had leased 9.35 acres of land near Fuldungri in Dharambhal Panchayat for 30 years in 1975. This land housed three tribal welfare hostels and a playground. However, the lease expired in 2006, and despite numerous efforts, including letters from the Commissioner of Kolhan Division, the lease renewal had been pending due to a delay in the investigation report from the Ghatsila Zone Office.
Minister Champai Soren listened to both demands and assured Dr. Choudhary of his cooperation. He promised to discuss the matter with the Director of the Higher Education Department. Dr. Choudhary expressed his gratitude for the Minister’s assurance.
Following the meeting, Dr. Choudhary attended a one-day workshop on Digital Initiatives for Higher Education in Jharkhand, organized by the Higher and Technical Education Department, Government of Jharkhand, at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi.
