Gas Shortage Fears Grip Gamharia as Industries and Residents Face Disruptions

Gamharia: Residents of Gamharia and nearby areas are facing growing difficulties amid reports of a shortage of cooking gas and petroleum products, allegedly linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The reduced supply of LPG has begun affecting both domestic consumers and the industrial sector across the region.

Long queues have been reported outside gas depots, with many residents lining up as early as 4:00 a.m. to obtain domestic gas cylinders. At the same time, the industrial belt of Gamharia is experiencing a serious impact. More than a thousand companies operating in the area are reportedly struggling due to limited fuel supply, pushing some businesses toward temporary shutdowns. Hundreds of small-scale units have already suspended operations, leaving many laborers unemployed.

The situation has also affected the hospitality sector. Several hotels have shut down temporarily, while others are making alternative arrangements to continue their services. Many industrial units have closed their canteens, and some companies have reduced the quantity of food provided to workers due to the lack of cooking gas.

Consumers are also encountering difficulties in booking gas cylinders online, further adding to the panic. However, local gas agency operators have dismissed reports of an actual shortage. Kalipado Soren, operator of KP Indane in Gamharia, stated that adequate LPG supplies are available and that delivery vehicles are actively distributing cylinders to consumers’ homes.

Soren explained that panic buying and unnecessary hoarding by consumers have worsened the situation. According to him, many households that previously went months without refilling cylinders are now rushing to secure additional supplies due to rumors. He also said that the online booking system has slowed down because of an unusually high number of booking attempts.

To resolve the issue, consumers have been asked to visit the agency office with their gas cards to confirm bookings so that cylinders can be supplied smoothly. Soren urged residents not to panic and to rely only on official information.
