Garhwa (IANS): A police crackdown on alleged illegal activities in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district led to an unusual series of events on Monday. After detaining several individuals during hotel raids, one couple wed on the roadside while three other couples signed formal undertakings to marry soon.

Acting on intelligence regarding suspected sex rackets, police conducted simultaneous raids at several local establishments, including Tiwari Inn, SNC, and RDS. During the operation, officers caught over a dozen couples in compromising positions and subsequently detained them along with hotel operators and staff.

The situation shifted during interrogation at the police station. Several detainees claimed they were adults in consensual relationships with existing plans to marry. To verify these statements, police summoned the couples’ family members.

Roadside Wedding and Legal Pledges

In a dramatic scene that quickly went viral on social media, one couple solemnized their marriage immediately outside the police station with their families’ consent. The pair exchanged garlands in full public view as onlookers captured the moment on mobile phones.

Meanwhile, three other couples submitted written affidavits pledging to marry in the near future. Following due verification and documentation, the police released them.

While the couples faced personal resolutions, the authorities initiated strict legal proceedings against the businesses involved:
