Five sweets showrooms penalized under FSSA Act 2006
Jamshedpur: In a significant move to enforce food safety norms in the city, five food sellers have been penalized under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006. The orders, passed by the Adjudicating Officer empowered under the Act, impose monetary penalties on vendors for violations related to food quality and standards.
According to official sources, the vendors were found guilty of selling substandard or misbranded food items including sonpapdi, pattisha, khoya-barfi, and kajukatli. The penalties were determined following hearings conducted by the Adjudicating Court, which reviewed the evidence against each seller in accordance with the provisions of the FSSA Act.
The five vendors penalized are as follows: M/s Shri Bhog, operated by Manoj Agrawal, located in Zone No.-18, Birsanagar, Jamshedpur – fined ₹20,000 for issues related to sonpapdi.

Each of these cases was adjudicated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, who serves as the Food Safety Adjudicating Officer under the Act. The penalties, totaling ₹1,00,000, were imposed based on substantial evidence of violation, including lab reports and spot inspections.
As per the note issued by the office, the Food Safety and Standards Act empowers the adjudicating officer with judicial authority to take punitive action in such cases. These actions are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that consumers in Jamshedpur receive safe and hygienic food products.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continue such inspections and legal actions to curb the sale of substandard food. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious food quality to the concerned department to safeguard public health.
