Gamharia: Hundreds of residents of Rapcha and Burudih villages of Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharsawan staged a demonstration before the Gamharia block office on Saturday to protest alleged disposal of waste by local companies. They threatened to wage an indefinite agitation in case the administration failed to take action against the erring companies.

Leading protestors, the Mukhiya of Burudih Sokhen alleged that thousands of tonnes of fly ash were being discharged into the local streams passing by the local villages for the past four years. He said the pollution caused by fly-ash was taking a toll on the life and health of the local population.

The Mukhiya said the pollution caused by local companies had made it difficult for them to carry out agricultural activities due to deposition of a thick layer of fly-ash on their farms.

Local JMM leader Amrit Mahato said the government should not ignore environmental and health issues while promoting industrialization and investment.
