Gabru-Mango crowned Cricket League for Sikhs champions with dominant 8 wicket win

CLS-2 Promotes Brotherhood and Discipline Through Cricket: CGPC Chief Bhagwan Singh

Jamshedpur, April 9: Defending champions Gabru-Mango once again asserted their dominance on the cricket field by clinching the title of Cricket League for Sikhs (CLS)-2 with a commanding eight-wicket win over Superkings-Tinplate in the final match held on Wednesday. The three-day tournament, organised under the aegis of the Central Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (CGPC), concluded at the Cooperative College Ground in Jamshedpur.

Superkings-Tinplate, who won the toss and opted to bat first, put up a competitive score of 77 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 8 overs. Key contributions came from Jagraj (22), Rajveer (19), and Karan (17). Gabru-Mango’s Amardeep stole the show with the ball, picking up four crucial wickets for just 17 runs. Heera took two wickets while Jagdeep claimed one.

In reply, Gabru-Mango chased down the target with ease in just 6.1 overs. Taran Marwah led the charge with an unbeaten 46 runs, including a match-finishing six that sealed the win. He was well-supported by Amardeep (17) and Heera (11). Karan managed to take two wickets for Superkings-Tinplate, but it wasn’t enough to stop the aggressive Gabru side.

Amardeep was named Player of the Final for his all-round performance, while Rajveer of Superkings-Tinplate was awarded both the Best Batsman and Sixer King titles. Jagraj was honoured as the Best Bowler of the tournament.

Colourful Finale and Memorable Moments

The final day saw vibrant performances both on and off the field. Known for his quirky style, “Dancing Umpire” Sunny Taibu, alongside Lalu Prasad Yadav, officiated all matches, adding a fun element to the intense competition. Deepak Yadav handled scoring duties, while entertaining live commentary was provided by Baljeet Sansoa and Gursharan, who kept the audience engaged throughout the tournament.

After the final, winning and runner-up teams were presented with trophies and cash prizes. All participating players received individual medals for their spirited participation. The prize distribution and closing ceremony were marked by joyous celebrations and heartfelt speeches.

CGPC Chief Lauds Sportsmanship and Community Spirit

The final match was graced by CGPC President Sardar Bhagwan Singh as the chief guest. In his address, he praised the enthusiasm and sportsmanship shown by players despite the scorching heat. “Sports teach us unity, brotherhood, and discipline,” he said, highlighting the tournament’s success in promoting physical fitness and positive values among Sikh youth.

He added that the Cricket League for Sikhs is an excellent initiative to encourage young talent and foster community bonding through sports. “It’s heartening to see players showing dedication and enjoying the game even in challenging conditions,” he remarked.

Senior Vice President of CGPC, Chanchal Singh, also emphasized the value of sports in life, saying, “Sports eliminate negativity and bring focus, energy, and positivity. Youth should always stay connected to sports.”

Community Comes Together for CLS-2

The tournament drew enthusiastic participation from members of various local Gurudwaras and Sikh organizations. Honoured guests included Sardar Nishan Singh, Daljit Singh, Dalbir Singh, and members of the Stree Satsang Sabha, who were present to encourage the players and enjoy the cricket action.

The sports core committee of CLS-2—including Amarjit Singh, Gurnam Singh Bedi, Baljit Sansoa, Jaswant Singh Jassu, Sukhdev Singh Bittu, Sukhwant Singh Sukhu, Sarabjit Singh Grewal, and Gursharan Singh—declared the tournament a successful experiment. They announced that more sports events will be planned under the CGPC banner in the near future.

The stage management and welcome speech for the event were handled by General Secretary Amarjit Singh, who coordinated the smooth conduct of the final ceremony.

Other dignitaries present included Treasurer Gurnam Singh Bedi, Central Sikh Naujwan Sabha President Amrik Singh, Advisor Parwinder Singh Sohal, and several prominent members of the Sikh community such as Harvinder Singh Jamshedpuri, Harjinder Singh, Trilochan Singh Tochi, and Central Sikh Stree Satsang Sabha President Ravinder Kaur, among many others.

The thrilling conclusion of CLS-2 not only celebrated cricketing excellence but also reinforced the spirit of unity, discipline, and joy among the Sikh youth and community.
