Fresh plans to raid Maoist hideouts, focus on Bengal border

Jamshedpur, June 22: With a sudden spurt in cases of Maoists attack in West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan, the security forces are planning a strategy to nail down the rebels. The forces have recovered arms and ammunition and are now planning a massive combing operation with help from Jharkhand Police.

West Singhbhum Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had recovered about 40 improvised explosive devices (IED) from the road connecting Kuida to Hathiburu under Goilkera  police station area of West Singhbhum district recently.

Security forces plan to raid all Maoist hideouts along the Bengal-Jharkhand border.  A number of Maoist squads have also become active in Banspahari and Simulpal in West Midnapore. Joint forces are expected to raid both places when operations begin.

“We have witnessed that there has been a sudden rise in Naxal activities especially in West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan. We have plans to raid their hideouts,” the police official said.

Moreover, on May 31 in a fierce gun battle between security forces and Maoists two security personnel were killed at Rengra Kocha jungle area under Karaikela police station. The police jawans were attacked by the ultras while they were on a search operation.

Sources informed that there are intelligence inputs that CPI (Maoist) may indulge in demonstrative acts of violence by targeting security forces and economic infrastructure such as trains, buses, railway stations, bus stations and other places where people are likely to gather in significant numbers.

Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure security of the people. This time all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines,” said another official.

Meanwhile, the police and paramilitary forces have started frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary forces on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.

The recent Maoists activities in Kolhan are really surprising. Steps also need to address the issues of safety in rural areas. With rising cases of Maoists activities in the rural belt it is important for the cops to prepare themselves to deal with the situation.  The movement of the security personnel, which include paramilitary jawans and cops of the Jharkhand police, is largely confined to on-foot movement so they need to be well trained before they step out, said an official.
