Four IEDs weighing 63 kgs recovered from Tonto in West Singhubhum

Jamshedpur, June 1: In a breakthrough against naxal activities, the police and paramilitary forces on Thursday recovered four IEDs from the Tonto police station area in West Singhbhum. The recovery of these deadly explosives has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the persistent threat of insurgency and the vigilant efforts of security forces.

The recovered IEDs weighed 63 kgs and were planted on the forest paths at Tumbhaka under the Tonto thana area.

According to police sources, the detection of such a number of IEDs was made possible from the intelligence inputs gathered from the villagers. After getting to know about the exact spots of the plantation of those IEDs, the police and paramilitary forces carried out the recovery exercise with great caution.

A large number of CPI-Maoist rebels have entered into the Tonto and Goelkera police station areas in the dense Kolhan forest division since January this year. Having entered into the forest division, the Naxals had planted an unspecified number of IEDs at strategic points inside the jungle, intending to cause harm to the paramilitary forces.

Acting on credible intelligence, a joint operation was carried out by the West Singhbhum Police and paramilitary forces in coordination with the state intelligence agencies. A police official stated, “The recovery of these IEDs is a major achievement in our ongoing efforts to neutralize the threat posed by extremist groups. These devices were designed with the intention to cause widespread destruction and loss of life. Our swift action and the coordination between various security agencies played a crucial role in preventing any untoward incident.”

The recovery operation was carried out meticulously, with bomb disposal squads and expert personnel ensuring the safe retrieval and subsequent defusing of the IEDs. The explosives, which consisted of a lethal combination of locally-sourced materials, were sophisticatedly rigged and concealed to inflict maximum damage.

Further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended target of these IEDs. Preliminary analysis suggests the involvement of an extremist group known for its anti-government activities in the region. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the manufacture, storage, and placement of these explosive devices.

The recovery of these IEDs has served as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by security forces in combating insurgency and maintaining law and order in the region. It highlights the continued need for heightened vigilance and intelligence-gathering to pre-empt such threats.

The West Singhbhum Police have issued a public advisory, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to the authorities immediately. Efforts are also being made to raise awareness among the local population about the risks associated with insurgency and the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring a peaceful and secure environment.
