Four get life imprisonment in Sonari’s Amit Rai murder case

Jamshedpur, July 31: The court of additional district judge V today sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in Amit Rai murder case registered with the Sonari thana on December 6, 2016. The convicted persons are Kanhaiya Singh, Sudhir Dubey, Mohan Yadav and Suresh Gour. The court has slapped Rs 20,000 penalty on each of the convicts. A resident of Sonari, Amit was shot dead by four bike-borne criminals in front of his in the evening of December 6, 2016.

Police cracked the case on January 10, 2017 by arresting four criminals with arms used in the crime.

The then SSP Anoop T Mathew said, �The murder of Amit Rai, 35, was planned by Kanhaiyya Singh and executed by the four arrested shooters.

Three country-made single-shots and one pistol along with six bullets, seven mobile phones and two motorcycles used by the criminals in carrying out the murder plan, said the cops.

The police got to know about involvement of the four youths in Amit�s murder during interrogation of Kanhaiyya Singh who was arrested from Palamu in the first week of January 2017.

After sending Kanhaiya to jail, a police team under the leadership of the then city SP, Prashant Anand started raiding the houses of the four accused and arrested them.

Police officials had said the criminals had carried out the murder at the behest of city-based gangster Akhilesh Singh. Mohan Yadav was reportedly given Rs 50,000 in cash in Ghaghidih Jail by Akhilesh�s aides. The plan to kill Amit Rai was hatched in Varanasi.

Amit who would allegedly extort `rang daari� was reportedly in the target of gangster Akhilesh Singh.

It may be noted that a gang of four criminals shot dead Amit near Shiv Ganga Apartment behind Bal Vihar under Sonari area. A 9 MM pistol was found from the spot of murder.

The gun-shot attack took place at about 7.15 pm, when Amit was sitting at the verandah of his house on the ground floor of the five-storied building.
At the gate, he was surrounded by four armed men. Sensing trouble, Amit tried to run it and shot at him from close range.

The assailants had fired three shots, one in the head and two in the backbone, causing the victim to die on the spot.
