Jamshedpur: Four criminals involved in extortion and a firing incident in Gudabanda have been arrested and sent to judicial custody by the rural police,. The arrested individuals include history-sheeter Gurucharan Karmakar alias Putku Karmakar, along with Jeevan Karmakar alias Ludu Karmakar, Soken Karmakar and Kashinath Karmakar—all residents of Gudabanda.

The police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, magazines, mobile phones used for extortion calls, a bike and four additional mobile phones from their possession.

According to SSP Kaushal Kishore, intelligence reports on February 7 indicated that a group was planning a crime near Gudabanda. “A raid team was immediately formed under the leadership of Musabani DSP and Ghatsila SD. Upon spotting the police near Maubhandar water tank, three criminals attempted to flee on a bike but were captured after a chase,” Kishore said.

Upon interrogation, the arrested men revealed the identity of a fourth accomplice, who was later apprehended in a follow-up raid.

“These criminals had been extorting money in Dhalbhumgarh and Maubhandar, threatening business owners and individuals. If their demands weren’t met, they resorted to violence,” SSP Kishore explained.

Gurucharan Karmakar, a history-sheeter, has previously served jail time for murder. “This arrest is a significant step in dismantling emerging criminal networks in rural Jamshedpur,” Kishore added.

All four accused have been sent to judicial custody as further investigations continue.
