Cops suspect two missing victims could be dead, search on
Jamshedpur, July 7: Unidentified armed criminals wreaked havoc in the Bahura Rathyatra Mela organized in Kuchai (in Seraikela-Kharsawan) late Thursday night by looting cash and valuables from the owners of various stalls. They also reportedly abducted four persons from the venue, two of whom, identified as Bharat Kumar Sah and Rohit, residents of Dhanbad and Bagbera (Jamshedpur) respectively, were traceless till this evening, sources said.
Police sources said two of the abducted persons, Narendra Gupta and Sunil Sahu, had escaped the clutches of the culprits. The victims told police the other two victims could have been killed by the abductors.
In view of the incident, district police here launched a manhunt for the culprits. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service to track down the culprits.
SP Chandan Kumar Sinha reached the crime scene with other police officials and started the investigation. He was told the culprits reached the fair venue around 10 pm when the culprits, seven to eight in numbers, assailed the staff of Uphar Studio and the manager of a small merry-go-round ride.
The culprits reportedly looted cash worth over Rs 20,000 along with laptop, camera and mobile phones from the victims.
Cops said they were searching for the culprits on the basis of information collected so far. CRPF officials are also assisting the district police officials in conducting the search in Naxalite-hit areas of the district.
